Immediately following the Black Saturday tragedy, and with the approval of the then Victorian State Coroner, and the other relevant Victorian authorities, Australia’s Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (Bushfire CRC) assembled a research team to undertake detailed interviews with over 600 survivors of the event.

The Urban Operations Group is tasked with reviewing emergency management issues pertaining to the urban environment, particularly relating to operational management matters of national importance, and developing effective strategies to address those issues. The Group met over two days in October, culminating in a site visit and live fire demonstration at the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC) in Craigieburn.
