International USAR deployments

The Urban Search and Rescue/Technical Rescue Sub-Group met in Melbourne on 24-25 June.

Representatives from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service attended to discuss issues surrounding international USAR deployments such as funding, the establishment of an international liaison officer program, and quarantine of returning equipment and canines post-deployment. The Group considered three new draft units of competency as part of its project to establish a Task Force Leader training package, which it hopes to finalise shortly. The Group also agreed to collate agency information on safe working on heights, and look at developing an AFAC guideline on the subject.
