New staff join the AFAC Team
AFAC welcomes new staff members Margaret Staples, Kate Twentyman and Kent MacCarter.
Margaret Staples
Hi, I’m Margaret Staples
Originally from Adelaide. I have been the Receptionist at AFAC since 1st February this year.
My working life spans a fair few years, working in the position of receptionist/administration. I have worked for a variety of different companies from the SA Police Department where I was one of only nine girls working with 350 men that was fun; accounting and building firms; but I had a long stint of 16 years with an advertising agency before joining AFAC. I enjoy reception because it is always interesting, challenging and I like to make people feel welcome and give them a laugh, and you never know who is on the end of the phone or coming through the doors.
I have a wonderful husband, two daughters and four grandchildren, enjoy friends’ company, dining out, reality TV and going to the theatre. I was President of Whitehorse Musical Theatre for four years and am now on the committee of the Tinnitus Association of Victoria -- this association helps people with ringing in the ears, buzzing, and head noises and with the iPod explosion we will be helping a lot more people in the years to come.
I’m looking forward to a long association with AFAC and feel very much at home.
Cheers, Marg
Kate Twentyman
Hi, my name is Kate Twentyman.
I took over the role as Finance Officer for AFAC around four months ago. I started working part time while I was still finishing my Bachelor of Business (Accounting) at Victoria University. I have since passed all my exams and have now joined the team full time.
It has been a challenge to learn everything especially while still being at university, but everyone at AFAC has been wonderful and it is a really enjoyable and friendly atmosphere to work in for your first job.
Outside of work I love participating in calisthenics and have done so for 17 years. I also enjoy water skiing and spending time with my family and friends. I am aspiring to start my CPA next year and look forward to the rest of my time with AFAC.
Kent MacCarter
Hi there, I’m Kent MacCarter.
It’s a pleasure to join the AFAC team as Online Content & Knowledge Web Administrator. I am very much enjoying learning about a new industry, the great people at AFAC that help shape that industry and our online tools which play a sizeable role in that effort. I come from a CMS, site building and online media development background which has largely been in the publishing and academic sectors in Melbourne. Most recently, I was at Curriculum Corporation (a quasi-governmental publishing consortium) building a vast online library of e-books and multimedia for secondary schools across Australia.
I first came to Australia from the US in 2004 to pursue an MA in English and Writing which I received in 2006. As things tends go at times, I find myself still in Melbourne six years later as a permanent resident and enjoying it immensely. I am an author as well as the content management type ... with few books in the works right now. My first was published in March 2009. I love travel, meeting new people and discovering how ‘things are’ in places previously unfamiliar to me. My wife and I recently spent six weeks in Ecuador and Chile – amazing places both – and I highly recommend getting there if and when you can.
It’s a pleasure to now be a part of the AFAC community.
