Tasmanian firefighter participates in Japanese study tour
Heath Bracey from Tasmania Fire Service recently participated in the JENESYS East Asia Future Leaders Program Disaster Prevention and People: Working Toward the Creation of a Strong Society.
Heath joined the Tasmania Fire Service in 2000 and is currently a Station Officer with the Launceston Fire Brigade.
JENESYS, which was established by the Japan Foundation that works to promote mutual understanding between Japan and foreign countries, is a large scale youth exchange initiative designed to strengthen and promote mutual understanding among the younger generations in Asia and the Pacific region. It is hoped that through these tours participants will gain a deeper understanding of Japan with regard to disaster prevention and relief and create a network of people from other countries working in the same field.
Heath was particularly interested to visit areas of Japan that had experienced a flood in an urban area, as his home city of Launceston has been preparing for a large scale flood for the past three years. He was also keen to visit the Kobe Fire Authorities to discuss differences in technology, tactical command, fire appliances and training.
