AFAC Learning and Development Strategy
AFAC Strategic Plan for 2010 – 2015 identifies in Goal 4 that it is committed to working with the member agencies to develop A fire and emergency services sector with capability and capacity.
One of the major deliverables specified for Goal 5 is to develop an industry learning and development strategy for 2011 – 2016.
AFAC Learning and development over recent years has completed a number of national projects to support and consolidate vocational education and training (VET) within the industry. Many of these AFAC projects are nearing completion and it is now timely to consolidate and build on this work by exploring emerging industry needs and opportunities in the field and to consolidate these into an Australian/New Zealand strategy for learning and development.
In developing an industry learning and development strategy, AFAC will explore, among other things, strategic relationships and partnerships between AFAC members and public and private providers, embed the research outputs of the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre (BCRC) through the research adoption strategy, explore blended learning models and articulation arrangements between VET and higher education.
A key input to this Strategy is the development of a survey. This survey is a key input into the development of an industry learning and development strategy for 2011 – 2016. The survey will assist AFAC to:
- Confirm the current strategic directions for learning and development within the industry
- Develop a profile of how learning and development is currently structured, funded and managed
- Establish an overview of the current internal and external partnerships for the provision of learning and development across the industry
- Benchmark current practice against a systems approach to learning and development
- Identify opportunities for future learning and development initiatives and industry priorities.
Member agencies will be invited to provide input via survey. The survey will be distributed in May 2010. All data will be collated, analysed and synthesised into a report.
