Australian Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition
The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition is being established to lobby the use of home fire sprinklers as a method of reducing the risk to lives and property and for the inclusion of home sprinklers in future home designs. The Coalition currently consists of: AFAC, NSWFB, FPAA, Institute of Fire Engineers Australia, and Insurance Council of Australia. Membership will be expanded as necessary.
While the main focus of the collations lobbying activities is to save lives, the coalition will also promote the range of other benefits associated with home sprinklers and other sprinkler use in high risk areas.
The mission of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition is:
- To increase the understanding and usage of home fire sprinklers among the public and home builders.
- To provide accurate information to the public about the life saving value, environmental benefits and enhanced sustainability of home fire sprinkler protection.
- To lobby for the inclusion of home fire sprinklers in the Building Code of Australia
- To promote the development of an Australian Standard for bushfire spray systems and once available their installation and use
- To promote the benefits of fire sprinklers and sprayers for all applications: residential, commercial, industrial and high hazard, as providing a “positive net benefit” to the Australian community as a whole, and;
- To educate legislators, bureaucrats, code officials, certifiers, fire safety engineers, consultants etc of the correct (and hence the most appropriate) application of the great variety of fire sprinklers that are currently available.
