National Procurement Arrangements
At the recent AFAC Council meeting a significant step forward was realised in relation to a national approach to the procurement of a wide range of items.
The Council endorsed a resolution that gives way for all AFAC member agencies to participate in the New South Wales Department of Services Technology & Administration (DSTA) 292 Contract process.
The NSW 292 contract covers a wide range of fire and emergency service equipment and has been predominately used in the past by the NSW Fire Brigade, NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW State Emergency Service.
The NSW AFAC member agencies, in conjunction with the NSW DSTA, have offered to act as the lead agency with the NSW DSTA managing the procurement process.
For the first time participating AFAC member agencies will have the opportunity to have input into the development of specifications and be involved in the evaluation process for these items. The contract would also, where applicable, become a ‘Panel Contract’ to ensure that differing needs of agencies are catered for. Given the wide range of mainly firefighting items on the contract, it presents an opportunity for effective collaboration between agencies.
