AFAC acknowledges and thanks all volunteers of our member agencies around Australasia for their commitment and dedication.
Over the past 12 months AFAC members have experienced a mining disaster and two earthquakes in New Zealand, significant flooding in Queensland, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Victoria, major bushfires in Western Australia and severe weather on Australia’s west coast and top end not forgetting one of our worst cyclones on record in far north Queensland. These events have had a significant impact on our agencies and more specifically the people who work in them, either in a paid or volunteer capacity.
During National Volunteers Week, AFAC would like to take the opportunity to recognise formally the vital work of the more than 250,000 people who volunteer in some capacity in fire and emergency services. Your dedication and commitment to helping those in our community is inspirational and your actions and leadership in response and recovery is instrumental in building more resilient communities.
