AFAC has released the publication Fundamentals of Doctrine: A Best Practice Guide available from the members area of the AFAC Knowledge Web.

Doctrine is a word that has many meanings. Literally, however, doctrine refers to 'that which is taught'.

The AFAC Fundamentals of Doctrine: A Best Practice Guide has been created to assist emergency management agencies fully understand what doctrine is; the reasons why it is used, how it can strengthen the connection between what an organisation knows and what it teaches and does.

This guide, doctrine about doctrine, has been written for senior managers, particularly those who have accountability for the systems and processes used within their agency. It has also been written for those senior personnel who have the challenge of writing doctrine.

As the guide suggests, good doctrine needs to be tested, refined and updated. Feedback on this guide is welcome, so if you have comments to make, please let us know what you think.

To support the release of this guide, a series of Master Classes was conducted by Justin Kelly principal author of the Guide. For more information on these Master Classes, contact Claire Ciantar.
