The 16th Annual AFAC Conference has now ended, achieving our highest record in numbers of delegates and exhibitors attending.

1200 delegates joined AFAC at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, taking part in the five streams offered (our largest so far), including "Extreme Events" and "Mobile & Aerial Mapping" streams.

The theme, "Meeting Expectations," provided discussion points for pertinent issues raised during 2009.  The topics on the fire devastated areas of Victoria in February and the unprecedented death toll leading to the establishment of the Royal Commission into these fires proved to be most popular with all delegates – including those outside of Victoria.

Fire, land management and emergency services were asked to challenge their thinking on "Meeting Expectations" looking at expectations of government, expectations of the community and industry and their own expectation of what can be delivered for the community.  All of these issues were examined and discussed by the delegates attending and also provided with a range of new initiatives in the industry.

Next year's conference will be held at Darwin Convention and Exhibition Centre on 8-10 September 2010.
