Overview
From the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.Returning forests analyzed with the forest identity examines nations that have experienced transitions from deforestation to reforestation.
They look at the causal relationship between Forest Identity and:
- carbon sequestered in forests
- the changing variables of national or regional forest area
- growing stock density per area
- biomass per growing stock volume
- carbon concentration in the biomass
The report looks at the impact on forest expanse of shifting timber harvest to regions and plantations where density grows faster and how Forest Identity could serve as a tool for setting forest goals and national policies to accelerate or retard the forest transitions.
