Overview
The Fire Behaviour and Fire Suppression in an Elevated Fuel Type in East Gippsland report is an evaluation of fire behaviour and fire suppression in open forest during moderate to high but decreasing fire conditions. The report examines:
- Spot fires that developed after a wind change
- Effectiveness of suppression techniques
- The rate of spread and its correlation with the McArthur Mk5 Forest Fire Danger Meter
The report goes on to suggest “the wind speed function of the McArthur Mk5 Forest Fire Danger Meter may underestimate significantly the effect of wind speed on the rate of spread for fires burning in elevated fuels in open forest above a threshold wind speed of about 15 to 20 km/h”
