Overview
This presentation will explore Australia's ability to respond to natural and man-made biological and chemical threats promptly and effectively within its current emergency management and health infrastructure. The inter operability between Disease Surveillance and Command and Control systems will be reviewed with comparison to international bio-surveillance systems that have been developed and implemented to track viral diseases of Swine and Avian flu, SARS and potential bio-terrorist releases of anthrax etc.
The goal of the Bio-Surveillance e-health initiative is to provide 1st responders, policymakers, public-health officials, and others within the scientific community with the analytical tools and computer models required to respond effectively to real or anticipated infectious disease or biohazard outbreaks by leveraging off existing infrastructures already in place within Australia.
This also includes the capacity to respond to high surge levels of patient demand on 1st responders ( Fire & ambulance) and the health system where a major bio-hazard incident occurs within a public environment.
