Overview
Bush fire fighters face a range of hazards in their occupation, among others exposure to air toxics. The combustion of natural fuels results in the emission of toxic air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and respiratory irritants, including formaldehyde, acrolein and respirable particles, all of which may cause adverse short-term or long-term health effects.
