Overview

The International Bushfire Research Conference - Incorporating the 15th annual AFAC Conference.

With the demand for online services ever increasing, it is our responsibility as emergency managers to provide information and tools to our communities in the format that they require to assist them in preparing for natural disasters. Web based tools offer a cost effective way to develop and deploy frameworks, processes and systems to local, state, national and international communities.

The NSW State Emergency Service has Web-enabled its award winning Business FloodSafe Toolkit to achieve this goal. The simple to use toolkit uses wizard-like functionality, following 6 easy steps that enables any sized business to prepare a fully customisable Business FloodSafe Plan.

The level of detail and customisation of each plan is at the discretion of the user. It is possible to produce a simple plan in minutes using pre-populated content that identifies impacts and actions that a business can take now/always, before, during and after a flood. Collaboration is available for multiple users to work on a plan. Plans can be viewed, edited, printed, deleted and maintained online and the output can be downloaded. An annual reminder is sent to users to ensure their plan is kept up to date.

It is anticipated that the toolkit will have a wide impact as it reduces the level of complexity, understanding and cost required to produce a specific Business

Continuity Plan for flooding, thus enabling any layman to better prepare for and protect their business from the consequences of flooding. The following summary covers the key points of the oral presentation that will overview the project and the functionality of the system.
