Overview
Australia is prone to natural disasters including:
- bushfires
- heat waves
- tropical cyclones
- severe storms
- floods
- drought
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has the responsibility for weather warnings for these natural disasters. While the costs of providing these services have always been calculated through the Bureaus budget the economic benefits of these services has never been calculated.
The Economic value of fire weather services report presents four papers addressing the assessment of the economic benefits of the Bureau’s services in support of natural hazard mitigation in Australia. These reports are:
