AIIMS provides a common incident management framework. The framework can be applied to any size incident as the framework provides for an expanded response as an incident grows in either size or complexity.
AIIMS provides a single management structure that facilitates the bringing together of all resources, from one or several organisations, to work co-operatively and cohesively in resolving an incident. Its application is intended to:
- Minimise the impact on the community and environment
- Provide for the welfare of people involved in controlling the incident
- Effectively and efficiently control the incident
- Provide a safe working environment.
AIIMS Products
AFAC has developed a number of support products to support the implementation of AIIMS third Edition which are available for purchase through the AFAC Shop.
These include:
- AIIMS Third Edition Manual
- AIIMS Training Resources Kit
- Supports tools are available such as Tabards, Aide Memoirs and Forms.
AIIMS Training
AFAC has developed a nationally accredited short course to train personnel in the principles of AIIMS. The short course can be delivered by registered training organisations licenced by AFAC.
The course addresses underpinning knowledge only and does not contain any practical emergency management activities. This course provides entry level training for personnel prior to specialising in specific AIIMS roles. In addition, people holding senior roles in AIIMS will be required to hold specific competencies from the Public Safety Training Package, relating to the role they perform. These requirements are specified by individual agencies.
The following training organisations are licenced by AFAC to deliver the Two-day Course in AIIMS:
- ComSafe Training Services (NSW Fire Brigades)
- Risk Response + Rescue (NSW)
- TAFE NSW Riverina Institute (NSW)
- HSE Plus (QLD)
- Emergency & Incident Management Services (WA)
- IFAP Crisis and Emergency Management (WA)
- Star International (WA)
Registered training organisations can apply to become an AFAC AIIMS Short Course Licensee.
