Camera AFAC Video: Highrise Firefighting Operations

This one day forum wass the second of three being run across Australia. It focused on firefighting operations in highrise buildings. The instructor (Dave McGrail - District Chief, Denver Fire Department, USA) provided attendees with a perspective of the strategy and tactics used by many fire departments in the United States of America (USA) to safely and successfully combat these extremely dangerous and challenging fires. Nationally accepted standards of practice within the United States Fire Service were explained. The instructor also highlighted the many valuable lessons learned from several case studies of significant highrise fires that have occurred in both commercial and residential occupancies in the USA.

Camera AFAC Video: Community Resilience in an Uncertain Future

Emergency Service Organisations (ESOs) cannot create community resilience; instead they can support and enhance existing community capacity to deal with uncertainty and adapt to change in the future. This research documentary proposes a number of practical steps that ESOs in Australia can take in helping communities prepare for and adapt to natural hazards such as bushfire, flood or storm events.
